The clocking system

The clocking system consists of a main clock that is connected to a GPS antenna and transmits time information to the secondary clocks located in the vicinity of the main clock.

A clock must, above all, be easy to read and suitable for the environment, which makes its color, functionality and decorative factors to be taken into account. LED and LCD digital clocks offer a modern style and a fast and accurate reading of the time. However, analog clocks tend to be more successful due to their timeless design.

There are two ways to synchronize clocks:

1. Radio synchronization
Radio synchronization has the advantage that the receiver can automatically receive time changes and, if there are differences, it will automatically reset the time, a clock works according to its own quartz base.

2. GPS synchronization
A network of 24 satellites that are part of a GPS system ensures the synchronization of time worldwide. The GPS antenna receives a message every second, decodes it and transmits it to the main clock. The main clock receiving the UTC (GMT) message must be configurable to adjust UTC to local time. The time is set to the secondary clocks automatically.

Time distribution

  • Wireless time distribution, DHS
  • Coded time distribution (AFNOR / IRIG B code)
  • NTP time distribution
